I keep an idea file where I add ideas for blog posts when I get them (and offline, I put ideas on paper or phone.

For brainstorming, here's what I do: I start writing topics down I could blog about. When I have ten or so of these topics, I write at least 3 sub-topics to each topic. Then I start writing questions under each sub-topic, again at least 3 each. In the end I'll have at least 90 questions to answer.

Then it's "just" a matter of answering those questions. I don't remember where I read this, but it's a great process. Not only to come up with topics, but they come in relatively structured manner too.

This was a very good post! I'm just starting (once again) with blogging and my other blogging attempts have failed just because of the reasons you mentioned. I pretty much run out of topics and I couldn't keep up with a daily schedule.

To come up with a buffer, you need to find topics to write about. Do you have any tips for this? Brainstorming perhaps?

This is definitely a great way to take the pressure of producing fresh post off. Going to make a run at this, as I recently used up most of my buffer. I have not regularly done this but need to make a more concentrated effort.

I generally have a one or two article buffer but with the more in depth reviews of services and software I find it difficult. Also a lot of the material;, ie Buzz, is very timely or contemporaneous so cannot be written ahead. My worry is that I have two weeks booked for Greece in July so need to get a good stack of material prepared for then.

I am so busy that writing buffer post is a must. Problem is I do not do it as often or as regular as I should. What happens then is I get into a time management nightmare.
Hopefully this challenge will encourage me to write more, thereby preserving my sanity

I do this for my niche blogs…the ones that I don't write for, because it's easy to pay for a batch of articles and have them ready/scheduled. I just can't do it on my own blog…hasn't worked well for me.

Good concept, I think it could also help people with the concept of planning their blog entries, making a bit of a strategic gameplan for cornerstone content. That's what I'm working on anyway.

Great idea, and a great way to get bloggers do actually do it. Sadly. I can't write in advance. I've tried and failed miserably. I need the instant “I'm going to write it now and get it online” pressure to get decent stuff out of me. But I'm sure many will benefit.

Hey Antti, I just noticed you have a Twitter and RSS count on your sidebar in plain text. How did you accomplish that? I need to put up a count of my Twitter followers for the rest of the month (to show my monthly goal progress) but didn't want a bulky widget taking up a lot of space.
